5 types of casual employment in hot demand

Trade Assist Casual employment in demand

Are you a machine operator? A truck driver? A forklift operator? A candlestick maker…? Just kidding about the last one. Anyway, if you have the right experience and qualifications, there are lots of openings for casual employment.

At Trade Assist we've got all kinds of roles, including placing candidates in transport and logistics jobs. And, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised, as a lot is going on in Christchurch: The East Frame and Metro Sports Facility, for example.

So, there certainly is no shortage of opportunities for people with the right skills. With that in mind, here are five types of casual employment opportunities that are hot right now.

1: Forklift Operators

Are you good at ‘picking stuff up and then putting it down?’ Well, if you are, you shouldn’t have any problems finding work as a forklift operator — as long as you’re physically fit and have current F and/or OSH endorsements, of course. We currently have heaps of vacancies for forklift operators.

2: Reach Forklift Operators

A master of shifting and stacking, are you? Well, if you’re fit, have experience and an up-to-date reach forklift licence, you too, are in hot demand. We currently have a position available in Christchurch — you must be able to work in a freezer store.

Please note: When applying for work through Trade Assist, you must meet the following criteria: a New Zealand residency or valid work visa pass a drug and alcohol test.

3: Machine Operators

Can you operate a roller, excavator or loader? If so, reliable and physically fit people with these skills are needed. We need a machine operator for a temporary job in Queenstown. You must be able to operate a range of vehicles, and the ability to drive an articulated dump truck is essential.

4: Digger Operators

Is removing, shaping and levelling rock and rubble your thing? Are you skilled at driving a bulldozer, grader or excavator? Well, there are currently lots of projects in Christchurch in need of your talents, and if you have experience and hold a current class-2, 4 or 5 license, the earthmoving ‘world is your oyster,’ as they say.

5: Class 4 & 5 drivers

"When you get a good one, send them over, and we’ll give them a try." That’s what our clients tell us when we ask them about drivers. Yes, if you can handle a broad range of vehicles, WE NEED YOU. Currently, there is a vacancy in Christchurch in civil construction.
