Senior Health & Safety Advisor


As a construction health and safety expert, you will be part of a team driving a positive safety culture. You will work closely with the construction management team to ensure that the site is a safe environment for all employees, sub-contractors and suppliers.


This project will run for two years and is in the beautiful Hawkes Bay region. In 2018 this company was the largest residential builder in New Zealand. A competitive rate of pay ($30 – $35 per hour depending on level of experience) with a genuine opportunity for career growth within the company.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Motivating, inspiring and coaching a construction team on a large site.
  • Ensuring H&S practices and policies comply with law in NZ.
  • Introducing initiatives aimed at reducing risk and preventing incidents.
  • Providing support and advice to construction management, particularly on risk assessment.
  • Developing, monitoring and managing H&S performance measures that encourage accurate reporting.
  • Monitoring and improving subcontractor safety standards to match the company’s high safety standards.
  • Providing comprehensive induction processes for new staff and contractors.


Minimum Requirements For This Role Include


  • High level of skill in conducting and interpreting audits and reviews.
  • High level experience in quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and development and monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects.
  • Capability and experience in delivering on site training.
  • High level of skill and experience in developing, analysing and reporting on complex project performance.
  • Strong relationship building, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to engage with subcontractors, and to communicate with people at all levels to ensure safety and compliance.
